This book presents the architecture of Francisco Fanucci and Marcelo Ferraz. Edification projects, urbanism plans, recovery and restoration of public works, residences and industries, as well as furniture. Together since 1979 in Brasil Arquitetura’s Studio, headquartered in São Paulo, Fanucci and Ferraz have been developing projects in different parts of Brazil and also abroad. All of these works reveals an identification with the humane calling of architecture.
With presentation texts from João da Gama Figueiras Lima and Max Risselada and critical texts from Cecília Rodrigues dos Santos and Vasco Caldeira, the book offers a large overview of these architects production who, since FAU-USP times, seeks new synthesis on their architectural actions. On the other hand, the reader will also find in those texts an original and fertile way to reflect about architecture.
When remarking about their work in Marcenaria Baraúna, Francisco Fanucci and Marcelo Ferraz write: “The reasoning, the concepts, the way of approaching each question arte the same as those we adapt in our architectural projects or in urban planning. The logic of structure, of balance, of the behavior and strength of materials, of comfort, of economy of means and inputs, of Essentials, all of it draws us to render the constructive system clear. Furniture with nothing superfluous, subordinate to the same logic as machines and tools, which are only of worth if they function adequately, if they attend to their use. Furniture intended to last must be economic and beautiful while explicitly stating its purpose, that is to respond to the needs and aspirations of its time”. This kind of principles declaration is materialized on the designs gathered here.
